Luxe at Home: Hotel Monteverdi

This month we’re kicking off a new series we’re calling Luxe at Home, where we recreate design inspiration from boutique hotels around the globe. Our first feature takes us to Italy, a place where beauty can be found in every corner of the country!

I’ve always dreamt that my first visit to Italy would involve exploring the ruins of ancient Rome or walking along the Riviera in Venice–that is, until I stumbled upon this beautiful sanctuary hidden away in the hills of Tuscany. Hotel Monteverdi is a boutique hotel located in the newly restored village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro, situated amidst fine wineries and Mount Cetona, in the Tuscan countryside. Designed by Ilaria Miani, this haven blends an ancient and modern aesthetic throughout its luxury rooms, suites, and private villas. Our favorite is the airy Val d’Orcia Suite, where the mix of rustic and modern Tuscan design emanates calmness and serenity. We especially love the open layout of the bathroom, and have put together our advice for how to steal this look and create your own private sanctuary at home.

Rugged Beauty

The charming and warm feel of this Tuscan design is all about texture. Weathered wood-beam ceilings and stone walls set the tone but also make the neutral color palette more interesting. Wooden furnishings like a classic walnut chair from LAX or stone bathroom accessories are great alternatives for incorporating similar textures into a room. Complement these surfaces with equally textured cotton and linen fabrics; they are soft, subtle and have a relaxed feel. Designers put a twist on a classic rugged design by adding a modern tub–in black! A stylish black tub contrasts with the rustic furnishings and soft colors, adding an unexpected element of elegance.

This Italian getaway places an emphasis on maximum comfort by with their thoughtful amenities, so if you’re recreating this at home, it’s definitely worth it to focus on the small details. Add a bath caddy to steady a glass of wine while you catch up on a good book, and scatter the room with lush floor pillows that you can simply drown in. Oh, and let’s not forget the towel warmer–getting out of the tub in a cold room won’t matter when there is a hot, cozy towel waiting for you. And a wall-mounted towel warmer in a swivel design not only keeps you toasty, but also serves as a sculptural piece of art.
