“Going green” with home design is a priority for many people these days. The kitchen is a great place to start, and there are so many versatile options to help you create the kitchen of your dreams, while still maintaining your environmental consciousness, from water-saving faucets to sinks made completely from recycled copper.
But how about we get literal for a minute, and actually look at going…green?
At the beginning of the year, Pantone set their crown on emerald, and that deep hue has lots of great applications in the home. Here’s a kitchen that brightens up the green a bit–a little more kelly than emerald. Look how a quick coat of paint creates a springtime worthy effect that is eye-popping and bold.
It Is Easy Being Green!
This fresh hue, Direct Green from Sherwin Williams, is fun, modern, and energetic: perfect for injecting life into a small room. One wall of green turns a plain little galley kitchen in a leafy, cheerful oasis. Simple black, white and wooden accents keep the intense color from becoming too overwhelming. Clean lines makes the room feel fresh and crisp, with plain wooden boxes and simple cookware; we just love the pristine simplicity of this white enamel pasta pot designed by Makoto Koizumi. Accessories on the white floating shelves have been pared down to a bare minimum; if you try this at home, it’s helpful to think of your shelves as display space, not just storage. By carefully curating the decor and the palette, the room looks cohesive and neat.
And small kitchens certainly don’t have to skimp on the quality of the fixtures and appliances; in fact, this is often the easiest time to indulge in high-end options. A Vola faucet can float on the wall; a Blanco Silgranit sink in the sophisticated ‘anthracite’ hue adds a luxurious touch to the small space. Keep the walls simple with a graphic calendar, and you’re good to go.
