At the beginning of each year, designers all over the world put in their two cents on what’s in and what’s out. In recent years, the use of nail heads as decorative trim has gained popularity, going beyond the ordinary applications on sofas and chairs. We’re glad to see that in 2013, it looks like this trend is here to stay!

Nail This Look

Traditionally, nailheads have been used to accent the formal lines of furniture and were popular mostly in masculine interiors: think the large classically-styled leather sofa in your grandfather’s study. But today, retailers are offering studded furnishings with elaborate and artistic design elements. Swirling and geometric nailhead patterns are even being used as a creative way to accent walls, doors and wooden cabinetry. When paired with contemporary fabric colors and finishes like faux alligator, nailhead trim creates a transitional look that’s both classic and modern.
