Trend #1: Ikat Patterns

Move over chevron and damask, because ikat patterns are taking over on the runway and in home decor! Ikat is an ancient weaving technique, used for centuries in South America and Southeast Asia to create rugs and textiles. Today, designers are using these traditional patterns by creatively infusing them into modern interiors on both a small and large scale.

Trend #2: Brass and Copper

Metallics have been popular in the fashion and design industries the last few years, but it was silver and steel dominating the scene. Now, copper and brass are making a comeback, with many designers embracing the warm metals that were popular in the 70’s. Accessories and living spaces will be adorned with brighter brass metals, while the darker copper is popular for sinks in the bathroom and kitchen. And if you have an entire home filled with silver metals, don’t worry. Mixed metals look great (despite what old fashion and design rules might say), so don’t get rid of the silver and steel just yet.

Trend #3: Leather

Nothing is more timeless than a leather jacket or sleek leather sofa. Leather is an old favorite, but now it has a new face. In fashion, leather in all colors has taken on a larger role. Let’s face it, you can’t even walk into a store these days without seeing a leather-trimmed t-shirt. And we’re also noticing more creative applications of leather in interiors. Leather door handles and cabinet pulls are growing in popularity and are used to add unique accents in kitchens, closets and bathrooms.
